Our school is named for William H. Rowe, who was born on a farm in Yarmouth in 1882, the child of Mary Jane and Charles Rowe. For much of his life, he lived in his grandparents'  home on Bridge Street with his wife Anna. He attended Colby College and later owned a pharmacy on Main Street.  William Rowe authored books on shipbuilding and on the history of Yarmouth. Active in the community, he served on the Yarmouth School Committee. At the time of his death, Mr. Rowe was the town clerk and had been for 39 years. William H. Rowe died in 1955, but his legacy lives on in this beautiful school that carries his name.

William H. Rowe School opened in September 2003, replacing the old 1950's Rowe School.  Rowe School serves kindergarten and first grade children. We are extremely fortunate to have such a beautiful facility designed especially for our work with young children.

Our outstanding teachers have extensive knowledge and experience in early childhood education and have used state and national standards in mathematics, language arts, social studies, science, and unified arts to determine what children should know and be able to do when they leave our school. All of our instruction, assessment, and reporting strategies reflect these learning results. The Math, Writing, and Reading Continua allow teachers to help parents understand their children's progress in learning.  In addition to our academics, the entire school works on four core values--"Safe, Kind, Helpful, and Polite." We are frequently referred to as the "Safe, Kind, Helpful, Polite" School.

Sincerely,
