Dear Parents and Guardians,

We face another flurry of events in the next ten days before the December vacation.  Please take a few minutes to review the following celebrations and information.

YHS Semi-Formal Winter Dance - December 13th, from 7 to 10 pm.  Tickets are $7 ($10 at the door). A reminder that per our district’s policy (found at this link), breathalyzers may be used by administration to minimize the risk of alcohol use by students.  Should students wish to bring a guest from another district, a guest permission form must be filled out and turned into the main office by Thursday (tomorrow).

Parent Coffee Chat - December 12th at 6 pm in the YHS library.  Please feel free to stop by and chat with the YHS administrative team.

YEF Clipper Honors - December 13th - Yarmouth Education Foundation Clipper Honors is back! This December, YEF is partnering with Maple’s Bakery. It’s a wonderful holiday gift for any Yarmouth School Department employee.  Donate $25 or more to YEF in honor of a Yarmouth educator, and your honoree will receive a YEF certificate of appreciation, a personalized note from your family, and a gift card to Maple’s! It’s simple. Place your order online at yarmoutheducationfoundation.org by Friday 12/13, and YEF will take care of the rest. It is a thoughtful way to honor teachers, administrators, support staff, bus drivers, and more! YEF volunteers will deliver your gifts on Wednesday 12/18.

Choral concert - Monday, December 16th at 7 pm.

Vaping Presentation - Wednesday, December 18, 2019, 6:30 – 8:00 in the Cafe.  Yarmouth Schools are hosting a community presentation on tobacco and vaping by Hawa Shir, Community Health Promotion Specialist from Portland Public Health. Hawa will will delve into the topic of vaping and e-cigarettes, covering some background information on e-cigarettes, how they work and how they can be especially harmful to youth. The presentation will also review how addiction works in the body and how this can affect youth. We will examine the marketing tactics vape/tobacco companies have used to target youth. The presentation will include tips on how to talk to your child about these topics.

December Laptop Collection - Next Week!

  • All Freshmen, Sophomore and Junior computers will be collected at 2:35 PM on Friday, December 20th at the end of Period 5.  Seniors may keep their laptop or they may store it in the lab. However, if a senior is going out of state and wants to use the computer, they must fill out this form by December 17th to receive permission from Mr. Klein for permission.

  • If students are leaving early please e-mail Tina Snow and Jennifer Lainey with the student’s name and date that they are leaving.  Students should check with the office for any paperwork that needs to be completed. Please ask the student to turn their computer directly to the innovation lab on the day he/she is leaving.

Extra day for work:

  • If students need to finish projects/work on their computers, the Main Office will be open on Monday, December 23rd - from 10:00 am - 12:00PM and Monday, December 30th - from 10:00 am - 12:00 PM.

  • Students should sign up here or in the computer lab prior to vacation if they would like to participate.

Lost and Found - Please ask your student to peruse the ever-growing mountain of clothes and water bottles located outside the main office.  A reminder that all remaining items will be donated to local charities over the December vacation.

Respectfully,

Eric Klein, Amy Bongard, & David Creech - YHS Administrative Team
