Thank you to Charlotte Agell, HMS Gifted/Talented teacher, for sharing her beautiful art with us!

December 18, 2020

Dear HMS Families,

We are continuing our focus on the strength of “Together” and gratitude as we move through this unusual school year.

With that in mind, we want to thank our incredible HMS Nutrition Team for their tireless work together, which is making it possible to feed our students and staff this year! This team has worked countless hours

through the spring, summer, and fall to ensure that our students have safe, healthy, delicious meals during the school day. They have had to incorporate many changes into their normal routines that require increased time to carry out. They have been tasked with creating and implementing a brand new breakfast and lunch delivery system for our kids and have done so flawlessly, without missing a beat!

This remarkable group of professionals is led by Blair Currier - Director of the Yarmouth School Nutrition Program, Kathy Latham - Manager of the HMS School Nutrition Team, and the amazing Nutrition Team, which includes Annette Newberry, Merita Mustafa, and Maryann Anthony. I know you join us in sharing thanks and appreciation for these outstanding professionals!

Thank you for taking time to review the other updates noted below.

Sending best wishes to you and your families for a safe, wonderful, relaxing break that includes time for the things you enjoy most!

With appreciation for your ongoing support and partnership,

Joan Adler and Tom McDowell

CDC Classifies Cumberland County as Yellow

Earlier today Dr. Dolloff let us know that “the CDC color designation for Cumberland County, indicating the risk of the spread of COVID-19, has been moved to yellow.”  As Dr. Dolloff explained, this will require us to modify our extra-curricular programming though we will not be shifting our hybrid model instruction in any way. In-person learning by cohort will continue, with all students learning remotely on Wednesdays.

We do need to temporarily discontinue in-person athletics and in-person extra-curricular offerings. This includes current athletic programs at HMS along with our intramural and robotics offerings. However, the parent/student Information Night for Alpine and Nordic Skiing will take place on Monday evening.

Activities that meet remotely are fine to continue. It is also fine for staff members to meet with students individually or in small groups after school. The CDC will reevaluate Cumberland County’s status and update the color coding assessment on Thursday, December 31. Thank you for your support as we continue to focus on the health, safety, and well-being of our learning community.

Construction Update!

Everyone at HMS extends thanks and appreciation to the Yarmouth community, School Committee, members of the District Building Committee, and Ken Clarke and his team at Arthur C. Dudley Contractor/Builder for the wonderful addition to our school! The new construction is absolutely beautiful and everything looks great and ready for our students. Projects like this take an intense amount of time and effort. We are thankful to everyone who worked on this renovation. The wonderful new space will make such a positive difference for our school!

Dismissal Process - Your Help Needed

We are continuing to work with our students to ensure that our dismissal process is as safe, orderly, and efficient as possible. We dismiss students by grade level, in groups that include students who ride the bus, bike home, walk home, or get a ride home from a parent or family member. Students who get a ride home are dismissed after the other groups have left school grounds so cars are able to pull up to the front of the school safely. Thank you for reviewing this process with your students at home as we continue to do at school.
