A special thanks to those of you who contributed so generously to our Thanksgiving Food Drive. The Rowe families donated 520 food items to the Yarmouth Food Pantry. The donations were greatly appreciated as the need is much higher this year than in years past. On Tuesday, November 26, we celebrated Thanksgiving by coming together for a Community Meeting. The donated food items were displayed, and we sang Thanksgiving songs. It was a nice send-off to the holiday weekend.
If you have been in our atrium this week, you have noticed our December holidays display in our windows. Currently, our display includes Hanukkah, Saint Nicholas’ Day, Saint Lucia’s Day, the Winter Solstice, Christmas, and Kwanzaa. If your family celebrates another holiday, please let me now as soon as possible so we can include this tradition in our celebration.
Our schools will be celebrating Computer Science Education Week (CSEdweek) the week of December 9-13. This is an annual program dedicated to showing students in grades 1-12 the importance of computer science education. During this week, students around the world will be participating in “An Hour of Code.” This is a one-hour introduction to computer science, designed to demystify “code” and show that anyone can learn the basics to be a maker, a creator, and an innovator. At Rowe, the first graders will explore logical thinking apps on the classroom iPads with Cathy Wolinsky. For more information or particulars, go to CSEdweek or contact Cathy Wolinsky, Instructional Technology K-4.
As the days get shorter and we spend more time indoors, it is important to monitor the amount of screen time your children are getting. Reading, playing games, and doing crafts are fun, healthy ways to spend winter days and evenings. Finding time each day for physical activity is also important for children and adults alike.
Safety continues to be a top priority in our schools.
