Dear Rowe School Families,

Our 100th day celebration on February 12 was quite a party involving the entire school. At our Community Meeting, Mrs. Warren’s class and Mrs. Miller’s class planned wonderful activities for us for the 100th day and Valentine’s Day. It has become our tradition to ask children to bring in 100 pennies, which we donate to a charity or organization in need.  As you know, this year we supported the Merrill Memorial Library Renovation Project. Each classroom counted the pennies. Each collection of 100 was converted to a construction paper dollar bill and glued onto a school-wide money poster. At the Community Meeting, we counted the dollars. A total of $220 in pennies was presented to Mrs. Pat Ramsay, the Secretary of the Library Board of Trustees.  Perhaps you saw the pennies at the Library Open House on March 3.

March 2 was Dr. Seuss’ birthday!  We celebrated on Friday, March 1, with a festive Community Meeting organized and presented by the students in Mrs. Lincoln’s, Mrs. Boutin’s, and Ms.Berry’s first grade classrooms.  The Cat in the Hat Came Back… Rowe!

Parent conferences were completed prior to vacation. This mid-year conference is intended to help you understand the academic and social progress your child has made this year. Though we know children develop at different rates, we have clear learning expectations for children at each grade level.  The conference is also intended to give you a better understanding of where your child stands in regard to these expectations.

It may seem early to mention this, however, we will begin preliminary placement conversations at the end of this month. Over the next several months those adults who know your students very well expend extraordinary amounts of time, care, and thought in placement discussions, as it is essential that balanced groupings be created to provide equal opportunities for all students.  We, therefore, do not honor specific placement requests.  Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
