June Newsletter

Dear Families,

It is hard to believe we have less than three weeks left to this school year. It has been a wonderful year and we have many more exciting days of learning ahead of us.

As I am sure you know, the Book Fair, Ice Cream Social and Basket Raffle, sponsored by the PTO, is this coming Wednesday.  All of the proceeds from the event go toward future enrichment activities such as visits by authors, field trips, or other education programs at our school. Our librarian, Ally Olson, organizes the Book Fair, with books provided by Royal River Books.  Proceeds benefit our library.  Staff and volunteers from our school will be on hand to assist with book selection. The Art Show features our children’s masterpieces created during art class with Emily Landry.  It is always a fun evening!

The PTO is still in need of volunteers. If you would like to volunteer, you may sign up at:

This is a busy time of year for PTO sponsored programs.  On Tuesday, former Rowe School student Lenora Felker, from Happy Kids, Healthy Kids, talked with the children about bike safety. They learned how to properly fit a bike helmet, how to safely walk a bike across the street, and how to read traffic signs, including traffic lights.

To support our school-wide Ocean Unit, the PTO is sponsoring an Intertidal Buffet to our kindergarten students on Monday and Tuesday and a Horseshoe Crab program for first grade students with Carol Steingart, of Coast Encounters.

Thank you, PTO, for all you do to support teaching and learning at Rowe School!

Our nurse, Jill Webber, will send home student medications on the last day of school. The medications will be put into Ziploc bags and placed into your student’s backpacks.  If you would like to make alternate arrangements for pick up of medications, please contact Jill by phone or email (846-3771 or jill_webber@yarmouthschools.org).

Important Reminder: Yarmouth Town Council adopted a school budget for Fiscal Year 2017 that now must be approved by the voters in a state-mandated, two-step voting process:

1.  Citizens are first invited to attend the Town Meeting on Tuesday, June 6 at 7:00 p.m. at Harrison Middle School to vote on each of the articles of the budget.

2.  Voters are then provided the opportunity to cast a ballot in a town-wide referendum to approve the budget as set by the Town Meeting.  The referendum will be held on June 13, from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Robert W. Boyd AmVets Hall.

Information will be coming home regarding our Beach Day at Crescent Beach on June 13.  This fabulous day culminates our school-wide ocean study.  We need many volunteers for this excursion!  Please consider joining us for this memorable day.

The following are important dates and upcoming events to note.

Check our website at http://rowe.yarmouthschools.org for more information.

June 6    Town Meeting at 7:00 PM at Harrison Middle School.  Please cast your vote on the school budget, which will then be sent to referendum.

June 15      Final PTO meeting of the year at 7:00 PM at YES

June 20    Last day for ClipperCare

I cannot believe the year is so rapidly coming to a close.  I want to take this opportunity to thank you all for the support you have provided to all of us at Rowe School throughout the year. We could not do what we do every day without your support and dedication to education.

On a personal note, it is bittersweet to turn the calendar to June.  I am cherishing my final days at Rowe School and will carry beautiful memories of you and your children with me as I begin the retirement chapter of my life.

With gratitude,

Ellen Honan
