November

November 2, 2022

Dear Rowe Families,

October has been a busy month. We are very excited about our Pre-K program. The students seem to be settling in well and learning so much already. Their play-based centers are such fun to see! We are eagerly awaiting the arrival of the playground equipment but know it will arrive in the not-too-distant future. In the meantime, Pre-K has been able to use our natural playground which has worked out well.

Kindergarten and first-grade students had presentations by the Chewonki Foundation last month. Kindergarten learned about Bats of the World and first grade had an Owls of Maine presentation. We look forward to more enrichment opportunities as the year progresses.

School Photo Retake

Our school photo retake day is on Tuesday, November 15th. Please see the attached flyer. https://target.brightarrow.com/userfiles/29851/files/Picture%20Retake(1).jpg

Candy at school

I would like to respectfully request that children not bring candy to school. We work to promote healthy habits while children are in our care.

Toys at school

Toys are a big distraction and can cause unnecessary bickering or competition amongst our young students. Children also become very upset when something they bring gets lost or broken. Please stress to your child that toys should be left at home. The exception to this would be a day when the entire class is invited to bring in an item for a special purpose.  An example would be a stuffed animal that fits in the backpack for a pajama day. Thanks in advance for your support!

Dismissal changes and after-school programs

Please be sure to call our school office no later than 2 PM to make dismissal changes. If your child is attending an after-school program that takes place in another location, they must have a bus note. This saves a great deal of last-minute confusion at the end of the day. Thanks for the help!

Community Meeting on School Safety Procedures

The Yarmouth School District would like to invite you to attend our Emergency Protocols Information Session on Wednesday, November 9, from 7:00-8:00 p.m. in room D220 at Yarmouth High School. (D220 is on the second floor at YHS – we’ll have directional signs posted for those unfamiliar with the building.) At this meeting, officers from the Yarmouth Police Department and members of our school leadership team will share changes to our response protocols. We will also answer any questions community members may have about our strategies to train students and staff effectively and compassionately on school safety measures.

YSD Update - Public PreK PreRegistration for Fall 2023

Yarmouth Public Pre-K is open for pre-registration for the fall of 2023. If you are interested in learning more about public Pre-K there will be an information session on Monday, November 7th at 6:00 pm at Rowe School. To be eligible, students must be four years old by October 15, 2023.

The curriculum is designed to actively engage students in their learning, and provide regular opportunities for hands-on activities and outdoor experiences. We believe that offering public Pre-K provides all students and families with the opportunity to equitably access high-quality, early childhood education. Programming is part-time (half day), Monday-Friday during either the morning or afternoon. Session times are as follows: Session 1, 8:40 am - 11:25 am Session 2, 12:40 pm - 3:25 pm. Transportation is available to and from school for all students. Buses can pick up and drop off at your home or child care providers within Yarmouth.

Click HERE  here to complete the pre-registration form. Completing Pre-K pre-registration does not guarantee acceptance to the program. Please complete the preregistration by December 2, 2022. If there are more children registered than spaces available, priority will be given to those with academic or developmental needs. If interest in the morning or afternoon session exceeds capacity, or if more than 96 students pre-register, the remaining places will be determined by lottery. Notification of the placement will be provided by December 16, 2022.

If you have any registration questions, please contact Rowe School at 207-846-3771 or Amanda Murray at amanda_murray@yarmouthschools.org. If you have any programming questions, please contact Susan Lobel at susan_lobel@yarmouthschools.org. Please share this information with any Yarmouth friends or family you know who have children eligible for Pre-K in the fall of 2023.
